A two-day workshop on working with handwritten archival documents in Yiddish, taught by Yankl Salant, a longtime faculty member and former director of the Uriel Weinreich Yiddish Summer Program. The workshop is open to Yiddish researchers at all levels with at least a basic knowledge of Yiddish.

About the InstructorYankl Salant has been working in the field of Yiddish for decades in a variety of capacities including as translator, instructor, graphic designer, editor, proofreader, and, less often, actor. His association with the Uriel Weinreich Summer Program began in 1985 when he was a student in the intermediate class. In 1993 he went on to serve as the director for eleven years and has been on the faculty since 2007. Salant was Associate Editor of the Comprehensive Yiddish-English Dictionary (2013) and Bibliographic Editor of the YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe (2008). He is currently collaborating with Joshua Karlip as translation editor on his Oyfn Sheydveg book project and is also working with the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst on the layout of their new Yiddish language textbook.
